My Turn

My Turn topic writer

Media Matters

by Steve Carpenter

I want to discuss a charming film about a young woman who decides to cook each of the recipes in Julia Child’s famous cookbook, Mastering French Cooking in One Year. It is a heartwarming love story about the passion two couples share for each other and for food.

Burton's Blog

Burton Buller

Is it Fate?

Hamlin Garland, an American writher of Great Plains stories wrote a series in a collection called, Main Traveled Roads.  His probing pen illuminated the plight of western farmers and the rural communities in which they lived. The stories dwell on desperate lives driven by circumstances beyond their control. His characters exhibited little hope for improved lives.

Next Week

When tragedy strikes, it's our call as people of faith to respond to those in need – like the many thousands who are continuing to reach out to Haiti in the aftermath of the earthquake. Next week, we'll hear from Pam who was like most of us – she always felt like she should volunteer to help somewhere but didn't – until a flood hit a nearby town, forever changing her life and views on serving others.
