Many Christian families have faced issues of substance abuse and other addictive behaviors. I have dealt with such issues from a pastoral perspective helping families to cope with relationships adversely affected by drug addiction. I have also experienced the harmful effects of the drug addictive behavior of a sibling. I saw first-hand how wrong choices impact an entire family and how years later, the sorrow and shame of an addictive drug habit was exchanged for a relationship with Jesus Christ. “Well, I’m tired and so weary, but I must go along
'Til the Lord will come and call, call me away…”
Lynn’s interview this week brought these words from the gospel song, ‘Peace in the Valley” to mind.

A dedicated father, grandfather and great grandfather, Eugene Souder also was the founder of a number of publications and a radio program which grew to the agency which now produces Shaping Families. Favorite Family Recipes
Lentil Barley Soup
Dorothy Hartman says she discovered this recipe in one of her Taste of Home cookbooks when she was looking for a soup to prepare for guests using ingredients that didn’t include potatoes and rice. Of added interest was the fact that the recipe was contributed to the cookbook by Anita Warner from Mt. Crawford, Va., a neighboring community to where she lives. Dorothy says the soup received rave reviews from her guests.
