Media: Perils & Possibilities

The way we consume media today is vastly different than it was even 10 and 20 years ago. Back then, if parents didn’t like what was on TV or wanted the family to do another activity, it was possible to just turn off the TV. Today, getting kids to “unplug” may feel near impossible for some parents.

Do birds watch television? We’re not sure. Next Week

Next week begins a two-part series on parents dealing with autism. The first guest is Karen McCormick, mother of two including her five-year-old son who was diagnosed with autism at the age of 18 months. She talks about early signs, various types of autism, treatment, how to get help—and how expensive it all is. If you know anyone struggling with the initial stages of a diagnosis, let them know about this short series on Shaping Families.

Aunt Edna's Cucumber Relish

Aunt Edna's Cucumber RelishThis recipe comes from Jodi Nisly Hertzler's Aunt Edna. Jodi says, "It’s so much better than anything you can get in the store. We use it to top hot dogs, of course, but it’s also excellent for making tuna and chicken salad.
