Homeless

“I could not believe that God would let a 12-year-old child who had absolutely nothing to do with any of it, be afraid for his life, and not know where he’s gonna lay his head, living with total strangers because we had nowhere else to go. There was nowhere.”

Frog Hollow Journal

Sam Heatwole

Sam Heatwole reading from Frog Hollow. At last count we've lived in 23 homes since we've been married. Whole Wheat Rolls

When host Burton's Aunt Jean’s turn came to host family feasts, the kids looked forward to the great whole wheat buns she would always serve. Burton remembers them as "so light, so soft, and so delicious". Only much later did he discover they were made with cottage cheese! Burton adds, "Had I known that then, I likely would not have even tried them, and would have denied myself a treat. Now, they are fun to make and serve. And when adding the cottage cheese, Aunt Jean always comes to mind, bringing memories of the wonderful Thanksgivings around her large table."
